Description
Soft, Chewy Bagels with a Burst of Blueberry Flavor
Ingredients
4 cups bread flour
1 tbsp granulated sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp instant yeast
1 1/4 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
1 tbsp honey (optional, for boiling water)
Instructions
- Make the Dough:
- In a large bowl, whisk together bread flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Gradually add warm water, mixing until a dough forms. Knead for 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Gently fold in blueberries, being careful not to crush them too much.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Bagels:
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a ball, then use your thumb to poke a hole in the center and gently stretch it to form a bagel shape.
- Place the bagels on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rest for 15-20 minutes.
- Boil the Bagels:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add honey (if using).
- Boil the bagels in batches for 1 minute on each side. Remove with a slotted spoon and return to the baking sheet.
- Bake the Bagels:
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them plain, toasted, or with your favorite spread!
